TIMES STAFF REPORT
For many, high school marks a period of growth and exuberance in our lives. St. Cloud Technical High School, the 2016 Best High School winner handing the title off this year to Sartell, is one local school placing an emphasis on a well-rounded student body, exemplary staff and all-around success. Principal Charlie Eisenreich answered our questions about Tech, which is (spoiler alert!) celebrating its centennial anniversary this year.
Why is it important to you to work at Tech?
It’s important to me to work at Tech because of several factors. First, we have an overall exceptional student body. Our students consistently demonstrate success academically, athletically, and in the fine arts arena. Our Advanced Placement and ACT scores stack up well against any school in the state. Our competitive teams consistently win conference championships across the board and several move on to state and national competitions. Second, we have an outstanding faculty and staff that foster high expectations of our students. We hold our students accountable by setting high goals that are often beyond their initial potential. Third, Tech families are incredible. Supportive parents are the norm at Tech. They understand the need to be directly involved with their students’ educational experiences and provide much-needed collaboration efforts.
What’s one weird or fun fact about your school?
A fun fact is we are celebrating our 100-year anniversary this year.
What’s the best part about working in education? What is the most challenging part?
The best part about working in education is seeing students struggle, learn and succeed, and knowing that we have played a role in that success. (The most challenging part is) just the opposite, seeing students struggle and not being successful or not reaching their full potential.
What do you want Times readers to know about your school that they might not already know?
Tech has one of the most well-developed and active alumni associations in the state. While many schools recognize alumni for their athletic prowess with an Athletic Hall of Fame, Tech goes one step further by honoring Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame members. Every four years the Tech High School Alumni Association selects 10 new alumni for this induction by celebrating the hard work, determination, service to community and significant achievements throughout their careers.
Past inductees are forever recognized with wall plaques proudly displayed in Alumni Hall at Tech High School. In addition to and as part of alumni association, Tech proudly boasts a “Tiger Den,” two rooms dedicated to alumni with memorabilia dating back to the beginning of Tech in 1917. The association is just one of the ways Tech keeps that tradition of excellence shining bright since 1917.
